How Found Money Charity Chose the Causes it Supports

Found Money Charity

I organized Found Money Charity to raise funds to support causes that help people directly. The three organizations I chose provide critical and tangible help to people in need.

The Jimmy Fund is a nationally recognized charity that supports research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to treat and cure cancer, as well as supporting care for those with cancer. Nearly everyone has someone in their life who has been impacted by this devastating disease. One of my grandmothers was treated at Dana Farber before she succumbed to her illness. So my family has first-hand knowledge of the amazing care provided at Dana Farber.

Cradles to Crayons is a nonprofit that originated in Boston, but has recently expanded to Philadelphia and to Chicago. Its mission is to provide children from birth through age 12 with the essentials they need to thrive at home, at school, and at play. Cradles to Crayons achieves this by connecting communities that have with communities that need. I have volunteered with and been a Teen Leader at Cradles to Crayons for two years and have learned directly that it is a well-run organization that provides much-needed support to children in need.

The Brookline Literacy Partnership is an organization that works to promote literacy in the greater Boston area. I have been a member of the Brookline Literacy Partnership for about three years and I am one of the leaders of the tutoring program. The BLP tutoring program sends 25-30 students from Brookline High School to tutor one on one with the students at The Mather Elementary School in Dorchester every Monday. The BLP also helps to collect books and raise money to build and sustain a library at Timilty Middle School in Roxbury.
